Kings File Grievance Over Fraser Injury
The Kings filed a formal grievance with the NHL over Colin Fraser's fitness on Friday, according to multiple media reports.
Los Angeles believes that Fraser's old team, the Oilers, misrepresented the extent of his ankle injury at the time of the trade, which sent Ryan Smyth back to Edmonton.
Fraser had surgery earlier this week to repair an unhealed ankle fracture and is out indefinitely, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The Oilers had said Fraser would be cleared to play in a few days.
The Kings aren't trying to void the trade and they are likely to waive Fraser anyway -- but they can't do it until he's healthy.
Mike Richards Excited To Be With Kings
Mike Richards was confused when the Flyers dealt him to the Kings last month.
As time has passed, Richards is now excited to be in Los Angeles.
"You start thinking, 'This is not a bad place to be, and not a bad place to restart a career,'" Richards said.
"I always used to love coming to L.A. to play. There's just a buzz in the arena, almost like it is in New York. I can't wait to feel it from the other side."
Detroit's Kris Draper Retires
Kris Draper announced his retirement Tuesday after 20 seasons in the NHL, the past 17 with the Red Wings.
He will remain in the organization in a still-undefined front-office capacity, but he wasn't interested in signing a two-way deal to play in the minor leagues, coming to training camp on a tryout or playing with another team.
It was the Red Wings or nothing.
"I loved everything about the game and everything about the Red Wings," he said at a news conference. "And that's why I'm going to miss it so much."

Winnipeg Jets Unveil New Logo
True North Sports & Entertainment unveiled the primary and secondary logos for the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club on Friday afternoon.
The Jets will begin play in the NHL this coming season.
The design for the new logo, which was developed in partnership with Reebok and the NHL, was inspired by the logo of the Royal Canadian Air Force.
"True North Sports & Entertainment felt it was important for the new Winnipeg Jets to develop a strong new identity," said Mark Chipman, Chairman & Governor of True North Sports & Entertainment. "We felt it was important to authenticate the name Jets and we believe the new logo does that through its connection to (Canada's) remarkable Air Force heritage, including the rich history and relationship that our city and province have enjoyed with the Canadian Forces."
Dubinsky Happy With New Deal
To Rangers forward Brandon Dubinsky, his new four-year deal is a victory for both him and his team.
"I didn't take less and they didn't overpay. At the end of the day, the team was happy with the deal and so was I," Dubinsky said by phone Thursday. "It relieves a lot of pressure. I think that was what made it most exciting, knowing that I had a long-term deal to stay in New York and be a part of the Rangers and what we're trying to build."
After avoiding arbitration by signing the deal with the Rangers Wednesday, Dubinsky is excited for what the future holds for both him and the team.

Jackets Introduce Carter, Wisniewski
The Blue Jackets formally introduced imports Jeff Carter and James Wisniewski on Thursday.
Carter will wear No. 7, while Wisniewski will don No. 21.
"Obviously with the acquisition of (Carter), it made my decision easier to come here," Wisniewski said. "As a free agent you want to come to a winning team. You don't want to spend six years of your life losing here."
Carter was acquired June 23 from the Flyers for right winger Jakub Voracek and draft picks.
"Top centers are not easily available," general manager Scott Howson said. "I think before we acquired Jeff, in the last decade or so, only two had been traded. They were Joe Thornton (of the San Jose Sharks) and Brad Richards (of the New York Rangers). If you look at all the top teams in the NHL, all the true contenders, they're strong down the middle, whether it's Vancouver, Philadelphia, Chicago."

"We expect to have something done by the start of the season. ... We expect to have an orderly sale process. It'll be done by the start of the season," Checketts told reporters.
